Ashley Young appeared to be in a reflective mood on Tuesday morning as he took to social media to look back on his arrival at Manchester United four years ago.

The England international joined the Red Devils from Aston Villa back on 23 June 2011 for a fee reported to be between £15m and £20m as Sir Alex Ferguson moved to bolster his midfield options at Old Trafford.

Young, who was handed Paul Scholes’ number 18 shirt, signed a five-year deal with the club and made his competitive debut for United in the 3–2 derby win over Manchester City in the 2011 Community Shield.

The 29-year-old used his Instagram account to look back at the day he signed for the Red Devils, posting a screenshot of the news article confirming his transfer to Old Trafford.

Young shared the photo above and wrote: “Four years ago today… 😊😊😊”
