Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise is feeling nostalgic on the 14th anniversary of his move to Anfield
John Arne Riise was feeling nostalgic on Instagram on Saturday afternoon.
The former Norway captain took the photo-sharing app to reflect on the 14th anniversary of the biggest move in his career.
Riise was signed by Gerard Houllier in 2001 just months after the Reds had won the treble and the defender made his debut in a 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich in the Super Cup.
Of course, the full-back’s obvious highlight was winning the Champions League in 2005 – the defender provided the assist for Steven Gerrard’s header which promoted the Reds’s comeback.
Riise wrote on his Instagram page: “14 years since I signed for Liverpool 😱 Thank you for the memories Will never be forgotten #lfc #ynwa #grateful #love #liverpool
The 34-year-old defender, who currently plays for Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia, won the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup during an eight-year stay at Anfield.
Riise called time on his Reds career in 2008 after the defender made a high-profile mistake in their Champions League semi-final against Chelsea at Anfield.
