Ray Wilkins: Petr Cech would be a great signing for Arsenal
Ray Wilkins believes that Petr Cech would be a "magnificent" signing for Arsenal this summer
Ray Wilkins believes that Petr Cech would be a “magnificent” signing for Arsenal should the goalkeeper secure a transfer to the club from Chelsea this summer.
The Czech Republic shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a move to Emirates Stadium in recent weeks as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of next season.
Cech is reported to have already agreed personal terms with the Gunners but it is understood that a fee has not yet been settled on between the two clubs.
Former Chelsea coach Wilkins believes that Cech would be a fantastic addition to the Arsenal squad this summer should the goalkeeper end up moving across London in the coming weeks.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Wilkins said: “He’s a magnificent character – as a bloke he’s first class and we know he’s a magnificent goalkeeper. Since the unfortunate injury he got he’s maybe dropped five per cent but he’s still world class.
“He’s very calm and his concentration levels are 100 per cent. The way Arsenal play, they keep the ball for long periods but when called upon the concentration levels have to be spot on, which they are with him.
“I think Petr will give a great deal to Arsenal and it’s Chelsea’s loss. I’m pleased we’ll get to see him in the Premier League week in, week out now.”
Earlier this week, Cech’s management agency indicated that there has not yet been an agreement between the two clubs despite reports that the keeper is close to a transfer to Arsenal.
