Player ratings as the Republic of Ireland and England play out a dire goalless draw at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin

By Iarla Duignan at Aviva Stadtium

Republic of Ireland

Keiren Westwood Had nothing to do for 60 minutes. 6/10

Seamus Coleman Was lively at the beginning but fizzled out like the game. 6

Marc Wilson A quiet afternoon against a torrid Rooney. 6

John O’Shea Easy day marking an anonymous Rooney. 6

James McCarthy Played it safe with no ambition to get forward. Ireland should demand more from him. 5

Jeff Hendrick Anonymous throughout, whether on the wing or through the middle. 5

Glenn Whelan Always protecting the back four but was rarely seen in possession. 6

Aiden McGeady Flattered to deceive at times early on. Another frustrating performance from the winger. 6

Robbie Brady At left-back, he was tested by England and did ok defensively. Never got forward. 6

Daryl Murphy A couple of chances fell to him the first half but he missed the target with both. 6

David McGoldrick Some lively moments but lacked the class to genuinely worry the English defence. 6

England

Joe Hart No saves to make in an incredibly boring game. 6

Phil Jones McGeady ran at him a couple of times early, other than that an easy day for Jones. 6

Ryan Bertrand Got forward a few times and looked dangerous. 6

Gary Cahill Not the most strenuous outing but Murphy caused him some problems in the first half. 6

Chris Smalling Had a battle in the first half but nothing to do in the second. 6

Jordan Henderson Industrious as always. A comfortable afternoon for him in the middle. 6

Jack Wilshere He will be happy with his display after so little football recently. Kept the ball well. 7

James Milner The new Liverpool man’s mind was elsewhere perhaps. 6

Raheem Sterling No final product but was England’s only consistent threat. 7

Adam Lallana Got no chances to influence the game as England’s attacks were rare. 6

Wayne Rooney Did not look interested. Barely had a touch. 5
