Watch Man United striker Robin van Persie catch a shark
Manchester United striker Robin van Persie gets more than he bargained for after a close encounter with a shark
Robin van Persie could have a future as a fisherman if his Manchester United career fizzles out.
The Netherlands international made the trip out to sea to enjoy a spot of deep sea fishing on Thursday but caught more than he bargained for.
The 31-year-old, amazingly, managed to snare a shark with his fishing rod, although as the above video shows, he had a hard time keeping hold of his fishing rod.
The United striker uploaded the clip on his Facebook page and added the following caption.
Van Persie wrote: “Ohhhhhhh ohhhhhh my god wooow unbelievable!”
Van Persie uploaded a further snap of another fish that he caught during his fishing expedition, adding that he let the earlier shark go in a bid to reassure any concerned animal activists.
He posted the below photo and wrote: “Our kids love to fish and haven’t stopped asking to go out deep sea fishing this holiday. Unaware this was going to be our best fishing day ever!!! What a catch! Nobody got hurt and of course we released the shark.”
The Red Devils striker has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.
Van Persie netted 10 Premier League goals under new manager Louis van Gaal but struggled with injuries for much of the campaign and only started 25 top-flight games.
Former Arsenal captain Van Persie joined United from the Gunners back in the summer of 2012 and helped to fire Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to the title before the Scot stood down as manager the following summer.
