Ander Herrera is hoping that he can learn from Bastian Schweinsteiger as he gets to play in midfield along the German World Cup winner at Manchester United.

Schweinsteiger joined the Red Devils from Bayern Munich earlier this month as one of four new signings as Louis van Gaal bolstered his squad ahead of his second season in charge at Old Trafford.

Herrera, who himself joined United from Athletic Bilbao last summer, has revealed that the German was one of his idols growing up and the midfielder is looking forward to learning as much as he can by playing alongside the former Bayern Munich star.

Herrera is quoted as saying by ITV Sport: “He is someone I looked up to coming through the ranks.

“He is one of the five or six best midfielders in the world and of course I have to learn a lot from him, Michael Carrick and others.

“I always want to play with the best players and Bastian is one of the best in the world. I’m sure I am going to learn a lot of things from him.

“He’s always safe with the ball. He always knows what is happening behind him and I have to learn that from him.”

Manchester United beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 on Tuesday night as the Red Devils continue their pre-season preparations in the United States.

Van Gaal’s men kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur on 8 August.
