Arsenal transfers: Wenger ‘working hard’ on new signings

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he is still on the lookout for potential new signings this summer

Arsene Wenger has reassured Arsenal fans that he is “working hard” on bringing in new players to bolster his Gunners squad this summer as they look to challenge for the Premier League title.

The north London side have already recruited Petr Cech from Chelsea during the current transfer window as Wenger looks to transform the Gunners into genuine title contenders next season.

Arsenal won the FA Cup and finished third last term and have been linked with a host of big-name players in recent weeks, including the likes of forwards Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain.

Wenger was quizzed on his transfer plans as he addressed the media at Arsenal’s London Colney training base on Friday afternoon ahead of this weekend’s Emirates Cup clashes.

The Frenchman remained typically coy but insisted that he will try and strengthen his Arsenal squad if the right player becomes available.

“We are working hard to do something if an opportunity comes up. We have a strong squad,” Wenger told the news conference.

Pressed on whether he is on the hunt for a new striker in particular, Wenger replied: “We have plenty of strikers and goals in the squad. We want more goals from non-strikers.”

He added: “We built something special last season with a good team dynamic, confidence level and a good style of play.”
