Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger discusses summer window plans
Arsene Wenger says that he only wants to add 'quality' players to his Arsenal squad this summer
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is open to the prospect of bolstering his Arsenal squad this summer – but only with “quality” signings.
The Gunners have inevitably been linked with a host of players in recent days as Wenger looks to transform his side into genuine Premier League title contenders for next season.
Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has been touted as a potential target for the north London club as Wenger looks to add to his midfield options at Emirates Stadium.
However, Wenger insists that his main priority in the coming days is to get the very best out of his current squad, before he turns his attentions to bringing in new faces.
Wenger told Arsenal Player: “The best way to strengthen other areas of the team is to get the players who did not play a lot last year and keep them fit.
“Walcott basically did not play until the end of the season, Wilshere has not played many games. Those two were very convincing at the end of the season so I hope that this season we can benefit from their participation and competitiveness.
“We lost [Mesut] Ozil and [Olivier] Giroud for long periods last year and they contributed a lot in the second part of the season. Let’s hope all these players will be fit and available.
“After, if we can still add some quality, we will do it.”
Wenger’s Arsenal side are currently back in pre-season training as they continue their preparations for the new Premier League campaign.
The Gunners kick off their Premier League season with a home clash against West Ham next month.
