Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger responds to Karim Benzema link
Arsene Wenger discusses Arsenal's transfer plans for the rest of the summer
Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out a summer swoop for Karim Benzema as the Arsenal boss discussed the club’s transfer plans for the summer.
The north London club have been heavily linked with a big-money swoop for the Real Madrid star in recent days as Wenger looks to bolster his attacking options at Emirates Stadium ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Wenger, who is currently in Singapore with his Arsenal team as they continue their pre-season preparations, was quizzed about the Benzema speculation during a news conference on Friday.
However, the Arsenal boss remained typically coy when asked about his remaining plans for the summer transfer window.
Asked specifically about Benzema, Wenger told a news conference in Singapore on Friday: “I don’t know where that comes from but it’s not happening at the moment, no.”
He added: “I’m happy with the squad we have. If I find an exceptional player to strengthen, I will do it.
“It depends what’s on the market. It’s not easy, there are a lot of teams out there in Europe competing for the same player. We don’t rule it out and don’t guarantee we sign.”
Arsenal have already wrapped up a deal to sign Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer.
The Gunners kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United on the opening weekend of the season.
