Arsenal transfers: Gunners urged to sign two more players
Frank McLintock believes Arsenal need at least two more signings to be Premier League title contenders next term
Frank McLintock has urged Arsene Wenger to bring in two more signings this summer to transform Arsenal into genuine Premier League title contenders.
The Gunners, who finished third and won the FA Cup last season, have already brought in goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea as Wenger added some experience to his Arsenal defence ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.
Arsenal are thought to still be on the lookout for a new striker as Wenger looks to add some more fire-power to his Gunners squad and competition for first-choice forward Olivier Giroud.
And McLintock also feels that the north London side would benefit from the addition of another holding midfielder as they look to win their first Premier League title since 2004.
McLintock told talkSPORT: “I would still like to see another couple of players come in,” he added.
“Olivier Giroud has done a good job up front and hopefully he will continue to do that but if he gets injured no one has really replaced that position.
“Theo Walcott talks about playing there but he is a little bit inconsistent and lacks experience to be your number one man there.
“You’ve also got one defensive central midfield player at the moment in Francis Coquelin. Some Arsenal players have months and months out, we have seen that over the years, and if that happens to Coquelin there is no one there, except possibly Calum Chambers, who can replace him.”
Arsenal are set to take on Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, before their Premier League opener against West Ham United at Emirates Stadium the following weekend.
