Arsenal transfers: John Hartson discusses signing Gunners need
Former Arsenal striker John Hartson believes the Gunners are a marquee signing away from winning the Premier League title
Arsenal are just a £50m player away from having a squad capable of challenging for the title, according to John Hartson.
Arsene Wenger signed Czech Republic international Petr Cech in an £11m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this month.
It is a great prospect for the Arsenal fans knowing the money is there
The Gunners manager reportedly had a £31m offer rejected by Real Madrid this week, whilst recent speculation suggests the FA Cup holders could launch a sensational bid for Robert Lewandowski.
Speaking after Arsenal director Lord Philip Harris revealed the club has £200m in the coffers to spend, Hartson urged Wenger to sign a big-name player to propel the Gunners to title glory.
“I believe if the right one came along – £50million, £60million – they will go and get him,” Hartson told talkSPORT.
“That could be the difference in them having a real chance of winning the title – of finishing above Chelsea and Manchester City.
“It is a great prospect for the Arsenal fans knowing the money is there.”
Wenger made Mesut Ozil the most-expensive signing in the north London club’s history in 2013 after Arsenal agreed a £42.5m deal from Real Madrid.
The Frenchman followed up that signing last summer with a £35m agreement to bring Alexis Sanchez to Emirates Stadium from Barcelona.
