Arsenal transfers: Karim Benzema signing isn’t vital, says Gunners legend
Arsenal legend Alan Smith explains why the Gunners can survive without signing Karim Benzema this summer
Arsenal can still win the Premier League title without signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to Alan Smith.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a £29m move for the France international after reports suggested that Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has deemed the striker surplus to requirements.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen to bolster his attacking options amid speculation linking the FA Cup winners with a move for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.
But former Gunners forward Smith doesn’t believe a potential Premier League title bid this season hinges on Wenger completing the signing of a proven goal-scorer in the transfer window.
“If you could get a Benzema, you’d take him with both hands, of course you would, but that’s really difficult,” Smith told Daily Telegraph.
“I think they can score enough goals without bringing in somebody like that because they’ve got so many players capable of finding the back of the net.”
Olivier Giroud, 28, managed to score 14 goals in 27 Premier League games last season despite missing a large chunk of the campaign after he broke his leg.
Arsenal eased to Emirates Cup glory last weekend after a 6-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais and 1-0 win against Wolfsburg in north London.
