Arsenal transfers: Theo Walcott delivers contract update

Theo Walcott insists that he is not being distracted by the speculation surrounding his future at Arsenal

Theo Walcott insists that he is not being distracted by the speculation surrounding his future and is in no rush to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

The 26-year-old England international is entering into the final 12 months of his current deal, which is believed to be worth around £90,000 a week.

Walcott has been touted as a possible target for Liverpool in recent weeks as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options at Anfield.

However, the former Southampton forward says that he is only focused on performing for Arsenal and is letting his agent take care of the negotiations surrounding his future.

Walcott is quoted as saying by Goal: “My agent has talked to the club, I enjoy playing for this club so I am just letting them crack on with things and I’ll continue playing football.

“If it happens it happens. We’ll just play the waiting game and see what happens but I’m sure it won’t be long.

“It’s not in my thought process at all. You don’t want to dwell on it, you want to play well and if it happens it happens.

“I won’t let that delay the way I’m going to be playing this season. I can’t let that affect me, I want to do well for this club.”

Walcott was in fine form for Arsenal in the closing stages of last season, scoring a hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion and sending the Gunners on their way to victory over Aston Villa in the FA Cup final with the opening goal.
