Arsenal transfers: Three forwards Gunners could sign this summer
Katie Falkingham takes a look at three potential striking options for Arsenal in the summer transfer window
Reports suggest the Gunners have been given the green light to sign the Real Madrid forward as they search for a strike partner for Olivier Giroud. Despite scoring 22 goals during the 2014/15 La Liga campaign, Karim Benzema will be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu next season as boss Rafael Benitez prepares to move Cristiano Ronaldo into the main striker role. Arsenal are reported to be preparing a £17.8m bid for the France international. Manchester United are also believed to be interested in Benzema as they search for a replacement for Radamel Falcao after his move to rivals Chelsea.
The Frenchman has scored 51 goals in 139 appearances for Lyon, and Arsenal are believed to be interested in the 24-year-old after new contract talks between Alexandre Lacazette and the Ligue 1 side fell through. The Gunners face stiff competition to sign the forward, with Liverpool currently being the hot favourites to sign Lacazette, and Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also staking an interest in Ligue 1’s top goal-scorer. Reports suggest Lacazette wants a move away from France, and with a price tag around the £21m mark, there is likely to be a real battle over the coming weeks for his signature.
The Argentina international has told Napoli that he wants to leave Italy this summer amid speculation that Arsenal are preparing a £43m bid for the striker. This is not the first time Higuain has been a target for Arsene Wenger, and with the promise of Champions League football next season, the 27-year-old is likely to favour a move to The Emirates. The former Real Madrid man has scored 28 goals in all competitions for Napoli last season, and would complement Giroud’s playing style in front of goal with his slick movements in the box.
