Arsenal transfers: Three reasons why Sergio Busquets would be top signing
Three reasons why Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets should complete a move to Arsenal this summer
Experienced defensive midfielder
Sergio Busquets could be the answer to Arsenal’s defensive midfield problems since the exit of Invincible legend Patrick Vieira. The move can be seen as ambitious from Arsenal, as it is thought that Busquets is happy at stay at Camp Nou. However, it has been reported that Arsene Wenger is hoping to add more experience to the defensive midfield position. Having played in that role since he stepped up from Barcelona B to the first team in 2008, Busquets has made 212 appearances for the Catalonian club. He could help to improve Francis Coquelin to become a player who breaks up play, as Busquets has done for Barcelona. It would be a dream signing for Arsenal fans, as it would mean that Arsenal mean business for the up coming season. To prise Busquets away from Barcelona it has been reported that Arsenal would pay him over £140,000-a -week.
Busquets has quite literally done it all with Barcelona. He would add significant experience to Arsenal’s defensive line and could improve their chances significantly in the Premier League and Champions League. The 27-year-old Spanish international knows a thing or two when it comes to winning trophies and medals. He has won La Liga five times, the Copa del Rey three times, most recently in the 2014/15 season, he lifted the Champions League for a third time. He has also tasted success in the Supercopa de Espana four times and the Fifa Club World Cup twice. Not to mention, he won the World Cup in 2010 and the Euro 2012 with Spain. Busquets has a presence on the pitch both for club and country. Arsenal want to become a club where they can win trophies. With back-to-back FA Cup wins, and with an addition such as Busquets, this could become a reality.
Improves their chances for the Premier League
As mentioned above, Arsenal have struggled over the years with defensive issues. Since paying off the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal have improved slightly. With the signing of Premier League goalkeeping legend Petr Cech, the Gunners have shown that they are willing to contest for the Premier League. Busquets could be the missing piece to the puzzle. Busquets could bring balance to the Gunners midfield, having already more than proved himself in Barcelona’s holding midfield position. Arsenal kept 10 clean sheets last season, compared to Barcelona’s 23. John Terry claimed that Cech could earn Arsenal an additional 15 points a season. With Busquets also in the frame, this could make Arsenal real title contenders for the 2015/16 season. However, manager Luis Enrique may not be so keen to sell his star player, but with the lure of the Premier League anything is possible.
