Bastian Schweinsteiger: Man United aren’t more popular than Bayern Munich
Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger insists his new club and Bayern Munich are equally popular worldwide
Bastian Schweinsteiger has only been a Manchester United player for six days but the Germany legend has already sparked controversy with his former employers Bayern Munich.
The 30-year-old was reported to have told the media that United are the most popular club in the world in response to comments from Franz Beckenbaur, who claimed Schweinsteigner should have stayed at Bayern this season before moving to Major League Soccer next summer.
Understandably, fans of the Bundesliga champions were irked by the reported remarks from their former skipper, but Schweinsteiger has clarified that he was merely referring to United’s number one status in the United States.

World Cup winner Schweinsteiger put pen to paper on a three-year deal last weekend after the Red Devils agreed a reported £15m fee with the Bundesliga champions.
The Germany international is one of four summer signings following the arrivals of Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian.
