Chelsea transfers: Five of Radamel Falcao’s best goals
Jonathan Hogan takes a look at five of Radamel Falcao's best career goals after his Chelsea loan move
1) Porto v Marítimo, Portugal, 2010
There were few better goals in Europe in 2010 than Radamel Falcao’s delightful overhead kick for Portuguese giants, Porto. The ball chipped into the box toward Falcao but with his back to goal and defenders all around him, he set himself and directed the ball majestically into the corner. Unstoppable.
2) Atletico Madrid v Athletic Bilbao, Europa League Final, 2012
Big players score big goals and Falcao did just that when driving Atletico Madrid to victory over Spanish rivals Bilbao with this terrific finish. Through on the right-hand side of the box he still had a lot to do with a number of defenders between himself and the goal but with a quick shift of the feet and a step-over away from the defender, he made enough room to drive the ball into the top left-corner.
3) Atletico Madrid v America de Cali, Friendly, 2012
Goals in friendlies are rarely given the attention of those in competitive action, but this superb overhead kick from Falcao couldn’t go unnoticed and received a nomination for the 2012 FIFA Puskás Award.
4) Atletico Madrid v Barcelona, Spain, 2012
Receiving the ball just over the halfway line, within two touches, Falcao sped away from three Barcelona defenders before showing tremendous composure in front of goal to chip the ball over an on-rushing Victor Valdes.
5) Atletico Madrid v Chelsea, UEFA Super Cup, 2012
Falcao turned in a virtuoso performance including a hat-trick within the first-half when leading his side to triumph over Chelsea in the 2012 Uefa Super Cup. In one of the great individual performances in Europe in recent years, the Columbian added millions to his valuation that night in Monaco which led the French side to splash the cash year later. Perhaps the highlight of that night was Falcao’s second when, after breaking through on goal, he turned inside Ashley Cole and curled the ball delicately into the top corner in a mirror image of his strike against Bilbao in the Europa League final months previous.
