Jamie Carragher: Why Petr Cech will make a big difference to Arsenal
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher runs the rule over Arsenal signing Petr Cech following his £11m move
Jamie Carragher believes Petr Cech will make a big difference to Arsenal in the Premier League next season.
The Czech Republic international signed a long-term deal with the Gunners on Monday after the FA Cup winners agreed a reported £11m deal with Chelsea.
Arsenal have lacked a consistent and reliable goalkeeper since Jens Lehmann, who was the last Gunners goalkeeper to win the Premier League.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher reckons Cech’s will bring valued leadership and experience to Arsene Wenger’s side.
Carragher wrote on Kicca: “Cech is still one of the best three goalkeeper in the Premier League and will make a big difference not just in his quality but his presence and leadership, which should have a big effect on those in front of him which the best keepers do.”
Cech will be competing with current number one David Ospina and Poland international Wojciech Szczesny for a starting spot in Wenger’s side.
The Arsenal signing won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League during an 11-year Blues career.
Cech racked up 485 appearances in all competitions following his move to the Blues from Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2004.
