Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers urged to sign Mario Gomez
German football expert Jan Åge Fjørtoft recommends Liverpool sign Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez
Jan Åge Fjørtoft believes that Liverpool should try and sign striker Mario Gomez from Fiorentina.
Liverpool are actively seeking a new striker in the summer transfer market and Brendan Rodgers will be keen to reinvest some of the money the club are set to receive from Manchester City for winger Raheem Sterling.
Former Norway captain Fjørtoft believes the Anfield club should look no further than German striker Gomez who netted 10 goals in 32 appearances for Fiorentina last season:
“If I were Liverpool I would try to get German-striker Gomez from Fiorentina. Goalgetter !!!”
Gomez certainly has a reputation as a goal-getter and his international record is excellent with 25 goals in 60 matches for Germany following his senior team debut in 2007. He was the joint top-goal-scorer at Euro 2012 under Joachim Löw.
He has also enjoyed prolific stints at Bundesliga clubs VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich.
Fjørtoft should be able to spot a fellow goal-poacher after successful scoring spells in England with Swindon Town and Sheffield United.
There are rumours that Brendan Rodgers could try and tempt Fiorentina by involving the misfiring Mario Balotelli in a swap-deal for Gomez.
