Liverpool transfers: Christian Benteke will be a hit, says Kolo Toure

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure is confident Christian Benteke can be a success at Anfield ahead of his £32.5m move

Kolo Toure is confident that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will be a hit at Liverpool.

The Belgium international is set to be unveiled as Liverpool’s seventh signing of the summer after the Villa forward was reported to have successfully completed a medical.

The Reds have coughed up the second-highest transfer free in their history to sign Benteke after the Merseyside club activated the striker’s £32.5m contract release clause.

And Toure, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City in 2013, praised Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for his impressive summer business.

“Benteke is a great player. It is much better to have him on my side than have to play against him,” Toure told Liverpool Echo.

“He’s so strong and powerful and his mental strength is important. Benteke isn’t weak, he stands up for himself. No matter what happens on the pitch, he will perform.

“The club has done some unbelievable business this summer and it’s going to be a big season for us.

“If we are strong mentally then I don’t think anyone can beat us with the team the manager has built.”

Benteke has scored 49 goals in 100 games in all competitions for Villa following his move to the Birmingham side from Genk in 2012.

The 6ft 3ins striker missed last summer’s World Cup after he ruptured his Achilles tendon two months before the start of the tournament.
