Luis Enrique has backed Manchester United to challenge for honours on all fronts this season during Louis van Gaal’s second campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils continued their preparations for the new season with an impressive 3-1 win over Barcelona on Saturday night during their tour of the United States.

United have already signalled their intention to challenge for the title next season with the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin.

And the Barcelona manager feels that Van Gaal’s side are capable of challenging for silverware on all fronts next season following their impressive performance on Saturday.

Speaking to the media after Saturday’s game, Barcelona manager Enrique said: “With a coach like Van Gaal and the kind of players they have. It is a team that are going for everything.

“In a year a lot of things can happen. We came off the back of a year without a trophy and we won the treble. United could do the same, it’s a great club.

“I spoke to [Van Gaal] for five minutes. It was a pleasure. He is a great person and one of the best coaches that I ever had. I have great memories of him.”

Manchester United, who finished fourth during Van Gaal’s first season at the club, kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.
