Man United manager Louis van Gaal reveals plans for Daley Blind
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says Daley Blind will be getting a run at centre-half this season
Daley Blind will be used at centre-half this season, according to Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
Blind has played well in the centre of defence throughout United’s pre-season tour and Van Gaal has praised his performances.
Speaking to the media after a 2-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, Van Gaal said: “I was very pleased with his performances, not only this evening but also the former performances. I think he can build up the game better from that position and he defended very well.”
Blind has occupied a variety of different positions for United since joining from Ajax in 2014.
And Van Gaal has confirmed that he will play at centre-half next season as he hopes to once again take advantage of Blind’s versatility.
Van Gaal added: “I think I shall use him there, but also in midfield and also at left full-back position. I am pleased with his performances over here in USA.”
Van Gaal’s comments mean that Blind will likely compete with Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling for a place at the centre of defence.
Blind is most comfortable as a defensive midfielder but following the summer arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, his playing time could well be limited in that position.
Van Gaal signed Blind after the two had successfully worked together at the 2014 World Cup.
