Bastian Schweinsteiger says he is desperate to win silverware at Manchester United.

The Germany international signed a three-year deal with the Red Devils after he completed his reported £15m move to Old Trafford from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Schweinsteiger has won eight Bundesliga crowns, seven German Cups and the Champions League during a 14-year career at Allianz Arena.

But the 30-year-old has an insatiable thirst for silverware, something which he believes he has in common with his new Premier League employers.

“Of course it’s not easy after a long relationship with the club but, in the end, I’m happy to be here,” Schweinsteiger told United’s website.

“Manchester United is a big club, I’m here to win titles and that’s what Manchester United is used to. I’m looking forward to playing in the shirt, it was one of my dreams during my career to be here and to play for Manchester United.”

Schweinsteiger has also linked up with his former Bayern manager Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

However, the World Cup winner played down the role that Van Gaal played in convincing the midfielder to move to the 20-time English champions.

“Of course, I know him so it was a little bit easier. It’s not about him, though; it’s more about the club, about Manchester United,” Schweinsteiger added.

“It’s such a big club with tradition and quality in the team, and I think we’re capable of winning titles this season. Of course, Louis is a great coach and everything is good, we’ll see how we do in the league.”

Schweinsteiger trained with his new Red Devils team-mates for the first time in Seattle on Monday evening ahead of the pre-season tour in USA.
