The World Cup winner has been heavily linked with a potential transfer to Old Trafford in recent weeks as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad ahead of his second season in charge at the Premier League club.
Schweinsteiger’s future has been up in the air in recent weeks, with his current contract at Bayern Munich set to expire in 12 months’ time.
Now, Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer has cast further doubt over the midfielder’s future by admitting that nothing is certain about Schweinsteiger’s situation.
Sammer is quoted as saying by Goal: “Basically, nothing is excluded.
“It’s a crazy world. He has clearly expressed that he is an important part of the team, but let’s see. We’re still waiting.
“Basti is a very important player to Bayern Munich but there are a few things to consider. We have noticed the speculation going around in public but we’ll just have to wait. You can’t rule anything out in the transfer window.
“Basti himself has spoken clearly. He’s a very important part of the team. That’s all I can tell you at the moment.”
The Germany midfielder has scored 67 goals in 500 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions.
Last week, the midfielder was snapped at Wimbledon as his girlfriend Ana Ivanovic practised at Wimbledon.
