Man United transfers: Christian Benteke ready for Red Devils, says Paul Lambert
Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says Christian Benteke would have no trouble adjusting to Manchester United
Christian Benteke would have no problems making the step up to Manchester United, according to Paul Lambert.
The towering Belgium international continues to be linked with a summer move to the 20-time English champions, although United face competition from Liverpool for the striker’s signature.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is looking to bolster his attacking options following Robin van Persie’s move to Fenerbahce earlier this week.
And former Aston Villa manager Lambert, who was sacked earlier this year, is confident Benteke would be a success at Old Trafford.
“I played with some great number nines and Christian on his day is unplayable,” Lambert told talkSPORT.
“He could handle it [the move to United] He has got the mentality to handle it.
“He is a brilliant footballer with his strength and technique. He would have no problem whatsoever.”
The 24-year-old striker scored 13 goals and made two assists in 29 Premier League games this season to help Tim Sherwood’s men beat the drop.
The Belgium striker scored twice in the FA Cup for the Villains last season as Sherwood’s side reached the final before a 4-0 loss to Arsenal.
Benteke’s team-mate Fabian Delph recently turned down a proposed move to Manchester City.
