Man United transfers: Karim Benzema would be top signing, says ex-Red Devil
Former Man United defender Danny Higginbotham is hoping Louis van Gaal makes a bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema
Danny Higginbotham has expressed his delight at Manchester United’s recent transfer dealings on Twitter but still hopes the club can secure a move for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal signed World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger and Italy international Matteo Darmian on Saturday.
And after his former club agreed a fee for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, United fan Higginbotham tweeted: “Is Carlsberg did the perfect weekend transfers !!”
United have strengthened well in defence and midfield during the window but the former Stoke left-back hopes that the club are still in the market for a world-class forward.
Higginbotham added: “Still get the feeling that there’s another big signing or two to be made. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a world class forward or no 10 come.”
Higginbottom then revealed that he would love to see Real Madrid and France striker Benzema in a Manchester United shirt next season.
“Benzema would be brilliant and would work well in a 3. That’s being greedy though. Can wish though,” Higginbotham posted.
Van Gaal could face stiff competition for Benzema’s signature amid reports Arsenal are also interested in the former Lyon forward.
Higginbotham began his professional career at Manchester United in 1997 and has passionately supported the club ever since.
