Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal hints at more summer signings
Louis van Gaal hints that he is still keen to add an attacking player to his Manchester United squad this summer
Louis van Gaal has admitted that he is still on the lookout for more “speed and creativity” to add to his Manchester United squad before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils completed their fifth signing of the summer on Monday after announcing a deal to sign goalkeeper Sergio Romero to add cover as David De Gea’s future continues to be a source of speculation.
United have already brought in Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay this summer as Van Gaal looks to transform his side into genuine Premier League title contenders next season.
And the Manchester United boss has hinted that he is still looking to add another attacking player to his squad following the exits of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao this summer.
Van Gaal told a news conference on Sunday night: “We need still more speed in front and also more creativity.
“That is why I hope Di Maria shall stay. But we don’t know that.
“I can give examples of champions, Bayern Munich have [Franck] Ribery and [Arjen] Robben, Chelsea have [Eden] Hazard and Willian, Real Madrid – [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Gareth] Bale, Barcelona have Neymar and [Lionel] Messi.
“Manchester United fans want us to compete with these teams.
“[Ashley] Young and [Juan] Mata had fantastic seasons [last year], with assists and goals, but to win the Champions League you need speed also.
“That is why I think, maybe, we still have to buy a player with speed and creativity.”
United kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham later this month.
