Man United transfers: Matteo Darmian set to join Red Devils
Matteo Darmian is set to leave Torino, with the Italy defender widely expected to join Manchester United
Matteo Darmian looks set to become a Manchester United player after the defender confirmed that he is to leave Torino this summer.
The defender has been heavily linked with a transfer to Old Trafford in recent weeks as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his rearguard options ahead of his second season in charge at United.
I’m leaving Torino to further my career, not because I’m unhappy
Now, it appears that Darmian is set to join the Premier League club in a deal reported to be worth around £12.9m.
In a statement posted on tuttomercatoweb.com, Darmian said: “The day has arrived. After three fantastic years, I’m leaving Torino.”
He continued: “In this moment, I have no words, I’m just crying. Remember that I’m leaving Torino to further my career, not because I’m unhappy. Torino will always be my second home.”
The 25-year-old versatile defender started all of Italy’s matches at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Manchester United boss Van Gaal is thought to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements as he looks to transform his Red Devils side into genuine Premier League title contenders next season.
United have already snapped up winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven as they began their transfer activity early.
