Man United transfers: Rafael Benitez delivers Sergio Ramos update
Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez insists he wants to keep Manchester United target Sergio Ramos
Rafael Benitez has ruled out the sale of Manchester United target Sergio Ramos.
The Real Madrid defender has been heavily linked with a move away from The Bernabeu in recent weeks after contract talks with Los Blancos broke down.
I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team
The Red Devils were reported to be ready to capitalise on the situation, with Ramos having just under a year remaining on his current Madrid deal.
But Benitez, who was appointed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor earlier this summer, reiterated that he wants to keep the World Cup winner in the Spanish capital.
“In terms of Sergio Ramos, there’s a lot of talk about his situation,” Benitez told his press conference.
“For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself, he does everything that the team and I ask of him.
“And for me, the matter (is that) the president has already commented that he is staying with the club.
“I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future.
“I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team.”
Louis van Gaal has already made four signings this summer in a busy transfer window for the 20-time English champions so far.
The Dutchman recruited Netherlands international Memphis Depay in a £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven in May.
The United managed has also added Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger, Torino full-back Matteo Darmian and Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to his squad.
