Manchester United are in official talks to sign Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica, the player’s agent has confirmed.
Gaitan has long been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, and the speculation linking him with a big-money move to the English club has once again gathered pace during the current transfer window.
The 27-year-old has also reportedly attracted interest from Spanish sides Atletico Madrid and Valencia this summer as his future at Benfica continues to be a source of speculation.
However, it now appears that Gaitan could be on his way to Manchester United, after the player’s agent confirmed that the Red Devils are keen on signing him, with Rafael Da Silva potentially heading to Benfica as part of the deal.
Agent Cassiano Pereira told Record: “It’s true. Benfica and Man United are in negotiations over Gaitan, and one offer includes Rafael to join Benfica.”
Gaitan scored four goals in 27 league appearances for Benfica last season and also featured five times in the Champions League for the Portuguese side.
