Man United transfers: Torino confirm Matteo Darmian move
Torino confirm that Matteo Darmian is set to join Manchester United this summer
Matteo Darmian is set to join Manchester United from Torino, the Italian club confirmed on Thursday.
The Italy defender has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Old Trafford side in recent days as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of his second season in charge at the club.
Now, it appears that Darmian is set to become United’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven earlier in the transfer window.
Torino coach Giampiero Ventura told Sky Sport Italia: “It’s true, Darmian will play in the Champions League with Manchester United.
“Matteo deserves a top team and always dreamed of playing in the Champions League so now that dream will be realised.
“In these four years we’ve gone from Serie B and a great depression to the top flight and the enthusiasm of the Europa League. We worked with Darmian for many years and it’s only right he should be given the chance to make his Champions League dream come true.”
The 25-year-old versatile defender started all of Italy’s matches at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
United boss Van Gaal is thought to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements as he looks to transform his Red Devils side into genuine Premier League title contenders next season.
The 20-time English champions finished in fourth place last season and sealed their return to the Champions League.
