Man United will mount title challenge this season, declares ex-Red Devil
Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre talks up Louis van Gaal's squad ahead of the new season
Mikael Silvestre believes Manchester United will challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The Red Devils have significantly strengthened their squad in the summer transfer window after bringing four new players to Old Trafford.
With the addition of such talented players, everything will be there to perform the whole season
Louis van Gaal, who guided United to a fourth-place finish in his first season at the club, has snapped up Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian.
And former United defender Silvestre believes the Dutchman has amassed a squad capable of pushing title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City for the Premier League crown.
“It has been another transition last season. I think the team will be challenging for the title this year because everybody will have the time to take the measure of what it takes to go after Chelsea, go after Manchester City,” Silvestre told Sky Sports News HQ.
“And with the addition of such talented players, everything will be there to perform the whole season.”
Van Gaal spent over £150m on new signings in his first summer at the 20-time English champions, but club-record signing Angel di Maria struggled to impress.
The former Netherlands manager added Schweinsteiger to his squad in a reported £15m deal and beat off competition from Arsenal to land Schneiderlin.
United start their campaign with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur.
