Man United’s Memphis Depay plays down Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons
Manchester United winger Memphis Depay is keen show his quality on the pitch after comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo
Memphis Depay has played down comparisons with Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The winger, having formalised his move to Old Trafford for a reported £25m following a remarkable season which included 22 league goals to inspire PSV Eindhoven to the Dutch title, was sure to attract comparisons to the Real Madrid forward.
While the 21-year-old Dutchman appreciates Ronaldo as one of the best or the best player in the world, he spoke of his own youth and relative inexperience of top-level football, adding that he wants to show, rather than talk, about what he can do.
“I’m not from many years in the game” Depay told his media conference on Friday afternoon.
“I want to let my feet speak and I don’t want to compare myself with someone like that.”
Depay was unveiled as a United player to the media at Old Trafford on Friday.
Ronaldo, now 30, managed 118 goals in 292 total appearances for the Red Devils, including 42 goals in all competitions throughout the 2007/8 season for which he won his first Ballon d’Or trophy.
