Liverpool have completed the signing of Christian Benteke in a £32.5m deal from Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old Belgium international has signed a long-term contract with the Merseyside club and has become their seventh signing of the summer.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction to Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing.

Former Reds striker Neil Mellor (‏@NeilMellor33) endorsed Brendan Rodgers’s seventh summer signing on social media: “Seems to have been talked about for ages but at last Liverpool have got Benteke. A real attacking presence with a very good scoring return”

Retired Norwich City midfielder Darren Eadie ‏(@eadie11) believes the Belgium striker will justify his price tag if Rodgers can keep his marquee signing fit: “If #LFC can keep him fit and more importantly interested, #Benteke is worth 32.5 million in my opinion.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot is concerned for Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa side moving forward.

Newcastle legend and Liverpool fan Mick Quinn ‏(@mickquinn1089) delivered a frank assessment of the Reds’s new £32.5m man: “When he is on his A Game, he can be unplayable, when he is not he looks lazy, he’s 4th top PL scorer in the last 3 seasons #BENTEKE”

Before the former Toon man added: “Still a doubt about him and Liverpools system”

Former Birmingham City midfielder Michael Johnson (@jonsarno) is confident Benteke will be a Liverpool success story like his pop-star pal: “ RT ‘@Harveyofficial: Good signing you will see. man like Benteke #YNWA’ Big signing”

Finally, Liverpool legend Terry McDermott ‏(@TerryMac777) challenges the giant Belgian to make a name for himself at Anfield: “Now it’s finally confirmed welcome to @LFC Christian Benteke, run around score goals and make yourself a #lfc legend #WelcomeBenteke”
