Mesut Ozil: Why Arsenal can win the Premier League next season
Mesut Ozil underlines his belief that Arsenal are capable of winning the Premier League title next season
Mesut Ozil has underlined his belief that Arsenal are capable of winning the Premier League title next season as they look to build on their back-to-back FA Cup triumphs.
The Gunners ended up in third place in the Premier League table last season after failing to fully recover from a slow start to the 2014-15 campaign.
Chelsea were crowned champions ahead of second-placed Manchester City as Jose Mourinho’s men secured a League Cup and Premier League double in the Portuguese coach’s second season back at the club.
But Germany playmaker Ozil is confident that Arsenal have what it takes to mount a serious title challenge next season as they look to lift the top-flight trophy for the first time since 2004.
Speaking to German broadcaster Sport1, Ozil said: “It was only in the second half of the season that we showed how well we can play, especially against big teams.
“We can sustain [a title challenge]. If the players stay fit, then we have a lot of potential.
“We also know that the other teams are good but we have the potential to beat any team.”
Ozil, who joined from Real Madrid in 2013, scored four goals and notched up five assists for the Gunners as Arsenal finished third in the Premier League table and qualified for the group stage of next season’s Champions League.
The World Cup winner, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, missed a large portion of last season due to a knee injury.
Arsenal kick off the new Premier League season with a home clash against West Ham United at Emirates Stadium on the opening weekend of the campaign.
