Andy Cole has expressed his approval at Manchester United’s “big statement” signings in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils signed Eredivisie winner Memphis Depay in a £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven in May before Louis van Gaal added Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger to his squad last week.

The Germany international’s arrival was swiftly followed by the capture of Italy and Torino defender Matteo Darmian before Morgan Schneiderlin joined from Southampton to complete United’s summer splurge.

And former United striker Cole, who won five Premier League titles during his career, endorsed Van Gaal’s latest additions to the Red Devils squad.

Cole wrote: “Big statement by the club!! Looking forward to seeing these lads in action on tour.. Welcome to the biggest club in the world @bastianschweinsteiger @schneiderlinmo4 @memphisdepay @matteodarmianofficial #mufc”

The 20-time English champions have been linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in recent weeks.

Van Gaal is also searching for a new goalkeeper after he confirmed that second-choice shot stopper Victor Valdes is likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
