Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker posts a training snap from London Colney ahead of Emirates Cup this weekend
Per Mertesacker says he is ready for Emirates Cup as the Arsenal centre-half looks to cement his place in Arsene Wenger’s first-team ahead of the new season.
The Germany international has faced increase competition for a starting spot following the signings of Calum Chambers and Gabriel Paulista over the past 12 months.
Mertesacker still managed to rack up 35 Premier League appearances for the north London side last season and the centre-half played his part in their FA Cup success.
And the 30-year-old, who moved to The Emirates from Werder Bremen in 2011, is eagerly-anticipating the starting of Arsenal’s perennial pre-season tournament.

Mertesacker has scored five goals in 125 Premier League appearances for the Gunners since his move to The Emirates in 2011.
The World Cup winner has helped Arsenal to secure back-to-back FA Cup crowns in 2013 and 2014 but the defender is still waiting to add a Premier League winner’s medal to his collection.
