Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says he is edging towards full fitness every day ahead of the new season
Daniel Sturridge has reassured Liverpool supporters that he is edging closer to full fitness ahead of the new season.
The England international isn’t part of the Merseyside club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia as the forward works on his rehabilitation from an operation in May.
Sturridge was forced to go under the knife to fix a niggling hip problem and the Liverpool star isn’t expected to make a full recovery until September.
With Raheem Sterling moving to Manchester City in a £49m deal from Liverpool on Tuesday evening, Sturridge was keen to give Reds fans some good news on his Instagram page.
He wrote on the photo-sharing app: “All in gods hands. Training couldn’t be going any better. Closer each day”
The England forward went under the knife at the start of May as he bids to be fit in time for next season.
Sturridge missed most of the last campaign with hip and calf injuries and made just seven Premier League starts for the Reds as Brendan Rodgers’ men finished sixth in the table.
Liverpool face Stoke City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City in their first seven away games of the 2015/16 campaign.
