Manchester United signing Memphs Depay reflects on his debut for the 20-time English champions
Memphis Depay took to Instagram to reflect on his Manchester United debut after the Red Devils eased to a 1-0 victory over Club America in Seattle.
The Neteherlands international started the friendly alongside his fellow new recruits Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin before World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger was introduced at half-time.
The former Southampton midfielder, who sealed a £25m move to the Red Devils from the Saints last weekend, scored what proved to be the game’s winner after five minutes with a header.
And Depay was thrilled to make his Red Devils debut after his big-money switch from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven earlier in the summer transfer window.
Depay posted the following caption: “Proud to make my debut for ManchesterUnited”
The 21-year-old played a pivotal role in PSV’s title-winning season after he scored 22 times in 28 games.
Depay has previously played under Van Gaal in the Netherlands set-up and he helped the Dutch finish third at last summer’s World Cup.
