Wayne Rooney took to social media to reveal his excitement ahead of returning to pre-season action with Manchester United in the coming weeks.

The Red Devils are due to return to Carrington in the coming days before they jet off for their pre-season tour of North America later in July.

And Manchester United captain Rooney is clearly looking forward to being back in action for his club, if his latest Instagram post is anything to go by.

Rooney shared the picture above on his Instagram account and wrote: “@manchesterunited can’t wait to get this pre-season started”

Rooney, who was appointed captain at the start of last season, played a key role in helping United secure a top-four finish last term.

The 29-year-old scored 12 goals and made five assists in 33 Premier League games last term as he helped his side secure a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
