Rafael Da Silva takes to Instagram to suggest that he plans to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer
Manchester United’s Rafael da Silva has taken to social media to dismiss claims that he is set to depart the club for Galatasaray.
The Brazilian has been mooted with a move to Turkey, a claim which seemed to gather momentum since United confirmed the club were on the verge of signing Matteo Darmian from Torino, who shares his right-back position.
But da Silva – more commonly known as just ‘Rafael’ – has taken to Instagram (@orafa2) to deny the claim, posting a picture of himself playing, with a Manchester United backdrop.
And with the caption: “A new season start. Let’s keeping fighting,” it would appear that Rafael was sending an emphatic message to Old Trafford supporters.
The 25-year-old, who has been at United for seven years, only made a handful of appearances last season due to injury, although van Gaal appeared to prefer winger-turned-defender Antonio Valencia when available over the Brazilian.
If he does stay, then Red Devils’ fans will be hopeful that Rafael can reach the heights of the 2012-13 season where he scored three goals and as many assists, whilst obtaining a WhoScored.com average rating of 7.36 over the season.
