Liverpool sign Nathaniel Clyne in a reported £11.5m deal from Southampton on Wednesday afternoon
Liverpool have completed the signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.
The England international has penned a five-year deal with the Merseyside outfit after Liverpool beat off competition from Chelsea and Manchester United.
The former Crystal Palace right-back, who is reported to have commanded a £12.5m transfer fee, is Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website following the confirmation of his Anfield move, Clyne said:
“I’m sure with all the competitions we’re going into this year, we’ll be going into them looking to try and win them.
“That’s where I want to be – I want to be competing for all the titles and trophies that are available. Hopefully we can have a good season and come out of it with some silverware.”
Clyne will compete with Javier Manquillo and Jon Flanagan for the right-back spot after veteran Glen Johnson left Liverpool at the end of the season.
The England full-back has scored five goals in 104 appearances for the south coast club during a three-year stay at St Mary’s.
And Clyne took to his Instagram page to post the above photo of the defender signing his new Liverpool contract.
Clyne wrote: “I’m very proud and honoured to have signed for @liverpoolfc a special club with a lot of history and looking forward to getting started now.”
Liverpool have already signed Brazil international Roberto Firmino, Manchester City midfielder James Milner, Burnley striker Danny Ings, Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez this summer.
