Former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is confident Jordan Henderson will do a brilliant job for the Reds
Steven Gerrard has issued his backing for new Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
The England international was confirmed as Gerrard successor in the prestigious role on Friday morning after being heavily-tipped to take the captain’s armband.
Henderson skippered Liverpool in the absence of Gerrard due to injuries and suspensions last season after he was named vice-captain following Daniel Agger’s exit last summer.
And Gerrard, who moved to LA Galaxy following the end of the Premier League season, is under no illusion that Henderson will be a successful Liverpool captain.
Gerrard wrote on his Instagram page: “Congratulations to @jhenderson getting the captaincy at our special club . I’m sure he will do a great job . Good luck mate”
Gerrard called time on his 17-year Liverpool career at the end of the season after having announced his plans in January.
The Liverpool legend won the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, the FA Cup three times and three League Cups during his Anfield career.
Henderson featured in each of Liverpool’s Premier League games last term as the Reds finished in sixth place.
