Wayne Rooney was thrilled to train with Manchester United signing Memphis Depay and his Red Devils team-mates at Carrington on Monday.

The 29-year-old forward got to check out Louis van Gaal’s £25 summer signing from PSV Eindhoven during the 20-time English champions’ first session of pre-season.

Rooney helped United seal a return to the Champions League last season after they scraped a fourth-place finish thanks to a relatively solid second half of the season.

And the England skipper was joined by his compatriots Michael Carrick and Phil Jones in the training snap as well as Netherlands international Memphis Depay.

Rooney wrote: “Felt good to be back training with the lads today @carras16 @memphisdepay @philjones_4 @manchesterunited”

The Red Devils have also been linked with a £25m move to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and Valencia centre-half Nicolas Otamendi is also a reported target.
