Manchester United winger Memphis Depay scores his first goal for the Red Devils in a 3-1 win against San Jose Earthquakes

Memphis Depay scored his first Manchester United goal in a 3-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils notched up their second successive pre-season victory thanks to goals from Juan Mata, Depay and Andreas Pereira.

The 20-time English champions eased into a comfortable lead after Mata’s simple finish before Depay capitalised on a defensive error in the 36th minute.

The Major League Soccer outfit did halve the deficit before the interval and manager Louis van Gaal made 10 changes to his side at half-time.

The Dutchman was unhappy with the Red Devils’s overall performance, but the United boss did praise Brazilian Pereira after the 19-year-old bagged a header to seal the victory.

Bastian Schweinsteiger did feature at Avaya Stadium last night as the World Cup winner was introduced at the interval.

However, the Germany international, who moved to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich in a £15m deal earlier this month, struggled to make an impact.
