Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado congratulates Garbine Muguruza on her Wimbledon semi-final victory

Roberto Soldado leant his support to Garbine Muguruza after she became the first Spanish woman to reach the Wimbledon final in 19 years on Thursday.

Muguruza beat former SW19 finalist Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book her place in Saturday’s showpiece and the 20th seed will face Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova on Centre Court this weekend.

Tottenham striker Soldado issued his support for the 21-year-old, who was born in Venezuela but now resides in Barcelona, with a congratulatory Twitter post following the youngster’s three-set victory.

It is the first time that Muguruza has reached a final in any of the four Grand Slams.

Last year, she was a quarter-finalist at the French Open and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Muguruza defeated defending Wimbledon champion Williams 6-2 6-2 at the French Open last year.

However, she was then beaten 6-1 5-7 1-6 by Sharapova in the next round and the Russian went on to win the title in Paris.

Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario is the last Spanish woman to reach the final but she lost 6-3 7-5 to Steffi Graf of Germany in 1996.
