Shaka Hislop trolled by son over Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool wonder goal

The Newcastle United legend isn't being allowed to forget Steven Gerrard's wonder goal at Millennium Stadium

Shaka Hislop got to witness one of the greatest goals in FA Cup final history when Steven Gerrard scored a last minute equaliser past the former West Ham goalkeeper at Millennium Stadium in 2006.

The former Liverpool captain connected with a loose ball from well outside the area and powered his finish past a full-stretch Hislop to salvage a 3-3 draw and force the final into extra-time.

Gerrard, who moved to LA Galaxy this summer, would go on to beat Hislop again in the penalty shootout as the Reds won the second trophy in as many years under Rafael Benitez.

And Hislop was reminded of the disheartening moment by his eight-year-old son during a kick-about on Tuesday afternoon.

West Ham had stormed into a 2-0 lead after Jamie Carragher put the ball past Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina to break the deadlock before Dean Ashton doubled the east London side’s lead.

However, Gerrard grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and teed up Djibril Cisse to halve the deficit before he temporarily levelled with a ferocious half volley in the Hammers area.

Paul Konchesky, who would go on to join Liverpool under Roy Hodgson, restored West Ham’s lead thanks to a cross-come-shot which beat Reina before Gerrard’s wonder strike.
