Simon Mignolet believes Christian Benteke will make Liverpool a more dangerous side this season.

The 24-year-old signed a long-term deal with the Merseyside club after the Reds agreed a £32.5m deal to sign the striker from Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

I won’t be challenging him anymore, like I did last season, so that’s nice!

Liverpool struggled to replicate their 101 goals from the 2013/14 campaign as Brendan Rodgers’s side managed to net just 52 times in 38 Premier League games last term.

And Reds No1 Mignolet, who moved to Anfield from Sunderland in a £9m deal in 2012, welcomed Benteke’s much-anticipated arrival.

“He will work hard in training. He’s got the physical presence, the ability to hold the ball up front and play with his back to goal,” Mignolet told Liverpool’s website.

“He will make sure that all the other players we’ve got connect with him, and when he keeps that ball make sure that we can be dangerous on the counter-attack.”

Benteke has scored five times in his last six appearances against Rodgers’s side for Villa.
And Mignolet joked that he is relieved that he will no longer have to face his towering compatriot.

Mignolet added: “We had some good duels against each other with Aston Villa. I won’t be challenging him anymore, like I did last season, so that’s nice!”

The Belgium international is Liverpool’s seventh signing of the summer so far.
Rodgers has already signed James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino this summer.
