Sol Campbell: Petr Cech will help inspire Arsenal to title glory
Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is tipping the Gunners to win the Premier League this season
Sol Campbell believes Arsenal have finally found the right formula which will lead to Premier League title glory this season.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger managed to lure experienced Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech to The Emirates in an £11m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this month.
Arsene has at last, got the formula right
Arsenal won back-to-back FA Cup crowns in May after a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa in the final at Wembley, whilst the Gunners achieved a respectable third-place finish in the Premier League.
And Campbell, who was part of Arsenal’s Invincibles champions in 2004, believes the north London side have finally found the right balance in their side to launch a sustained title bid.
“I think it’s going to be Arsenal’s year. For the second part of last season their form was fantastic and I think they will take this into the new season,” Campbell told ESPN.
“Arsenal are usually slow starters and do not fire into life until December. I believe they now realise that they can’t afford to do this anymore and have to get out of the blocks quickly.
“Arsenal have a strong, balanced side, there’s a great team spirit, which is very important and Arsene has at last, got the formula right.”
Wenger’s only signing of the summer transfer window so far has been Cech, who opted to leave Chelsea after he was bumped down the pecking order following Thibaut Courtois’s return from loan.
And Campbell, who moved to Arsenal from Tottenham Hotspur in a controversial switch in 2001, believes Cech is the most important significant of the summer window.
“He’s also made one of the most important signings of any of the top four clubs this summer,” Campbell added. “[Petr Cech] is a fantastic addition to the team and is exactly what Arsenal needed.”
