Thierry Henry: Man United boss Louis van Gaal is an amazing tactician
Thierry Henry is fully expecting Manchester United to push for the Premier League title next season
Thierry Henry is expecting Manchester United to be serious Premier League title contenders next season during Louis van Gaal’s second season in charge at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have already signed four new players this summer as they look to build on last season’s fourth-placed finish in the top flight.
Van Gaal has recruited Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Matteo Darmian in recent weeks as he bids to transform his team into title contenders.
And former Arsenal striker Henry is fully expecting the “amazing tactician” Van Gaal to steer his side to a genuine Premier League title challenge next term.
Henry told Sky Sports: “It took a little while for the players to understand what he [Van Gaal] wants, his tactics, and it worked. And then they had a little problem again at the end of the season, in all fairness.
“Van Gaal is an amazing tactician. I am sure he is going to come up with something we have not seen before, and surprise teams.”
The former Arsenal captain feels that United will now be looking to push for the title after a season of transition following David Moyes’ sacking.
He continued: “It was a transition year from a transition year with David Moyes, but now they are going to want the title again.
“This is United, they are not going to accept finishing second or third, or fourth, and everybody knows that. That is the way the club is.
“I expect United to be close next year to the title, very close to it.”
Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the season.
